The First Step

December 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Welcome to the first installment of my blog intended to provide you with helpful tips for your home, office and life. It is my desire to assist you in bridging the gap between where you are and where you’d like to be. In this way, we bring our best selves into all that we do. And that’s a good thing!

I ask my clients and students to identify where they are right now and contrast that to their desires in life. Sometimes it’s difficult to articulate what you might want. If that is the case, start with what you don’t want. Make a list of all the things in your life that you tolerate, dislike, put up with, etc. In other words, list all the things in your life that you want to change. Take your time with this part of the exercise. It is helpful to do this process over several days to begin to notice patterns. That’s what we are after here…patterns of discomfort.

Once you feel satisfied with your list of what you’d like to change, contrast those items with how you’d like it to be. Don’t worry if this feel like “pie in the sky” at the moment. It is important that this part of the exercise be free flowing. Often what shows up are the things in life that you are very connected to. Take every item on your list that you don’t want in your life and turn it around to what you’d like your life to look like. This becomes your first step in creating the life you deserve. Take several days, or longer, to refine your desires. The clearer they are the better.

Stay tuned for the next installment which will focus on putting your desires into action.
